Loma AtravesadaNamed on Santa Rita Peak 7.5' quadrangle for a ridge in the area of N36° 21.40; W120° 31.90. Loma Atravesada is Spanish for Crossed Hill (or cross to the other side), the peak is called Three Sisters on the ridge, but the U.S. Board of Geographic Names rejected the name "Three Sisters" for the ridge itself. A trail once crossed this ridge from Salt Creek, over the ridge then down into Arroyo Leona at Joaquin Camp and then to the Del Mexico Mine. Since Arroyo Leona was impassible, this was a commonly used trail by miners and sheepherders in the area for access to Santa Rita Peak area. This trail was probably established by the Yokuts long before Alta California. |
