PicachoPicacho was a small mining community located just over the summit near the Picacho Mine. The town grew to about 300 people and the Picacho Post Office opened there on March 3, 1869. The town is not named on San Benito Mountain 7.5' quadrangle. Elliott & Moore also make an interesting observation about a "forest of pines and cedars, some trees measuring five and six feet in diameter." Jack James remembers seeing 12-foot diameter stumps. The Picacho Post Office closed on August 16, 1880 and service was moved to the Erie Post Office.
